It's become a cliché in the automotive press to proceed Saab with the word 'troubled' recently. Yet the company's latest announcement does little to dispel the notion that all is not well in Trollhatten, as it has announced that it will not be featuring at September's Frankfurt auto show. Google will launch its own fleet of autonomous vehicle prototypes – with no steering wheels and no gas or brake pedals – as the technology giant begins a new phase of its self-driving car project. The New York Times reported Tuesday night that a Detroit-area manufacturer is building the cars for Google, which declined to name the manufacturer, according to the Times' story.
Ford has unveiled its Atlas Concept at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). The Atlas Concept previews the designs and technologies of future Ford pickup trucks – particularly the F150 – and features a chiseled grille (complete with automatic shutters) and a wide stance designed to emphasize the ‘Built Ford Tough' image. A drop-down front wind spoiler lowers at highway speeds to improve underbody airflow.
